Questions about pace
How is running pace worked out?
Pace is time divided by distance. A 10 km run in 50 minutes is 50 ÷ 10 = 5 minutes per kilometre, written 5:00/km.
How do I convert pace from kilometres to miles?
A mile is 1.609344 km, so multiply your per-kilometre pace by 1.609344. 5:00/km is 8:03/mi. To go the other way, divide.
What pace do I need for a sub-2 half marathon?
A half marathon is 21.0975 km. Two hours over that distance is 5:41/km, or 9:09/mi, held evenly all the way.
What pace is a sub-3 marathon?
A marathon is 42.195 km, so three hours exactly works out at 4:15.9/km. That rounds to 4:16/km, which would actually bring you in at 3:00:02 — to be inside three hours, run 4:15/km or 6:51/mi.
Is the finish-time table a race prediction?
No. It is what you would run at this pace held evenly over each distance. Most runners slow over longer races, so treat the longer times as the best case at this pace.
